"My heart is divided in two" said Signori

Legendary Italian forward Beppe Signori has spoken about tomorrow afternoon's game between two of his old teams, Lazio and Bologna...

Beppe Signori scored 188 goals in Serie A, topping the scorer’s chart three times.

His one-step run-up when taking penalties was copied in stadiums and parks across the world, and now, he has spoken about the game tomorrow afternoon that sees two of his old sides face each other.

Lalaziosiamonoi.it
interviewed Signori and asked him his opinion on the Lazio Bologna clash, “The two teams are in different places right now,” the 41-year-old said, “Lazio won well against Lecce, while Bologna were beaten by Inter.

They also questioned him about Lazio's Mauro Zarate, who some call his heir, “Comparisons can be useful, but all foreigners are going to have a tough time, Mauro hit the ground running, so a slow down was to be expected, even if his quality is not up for discussion.”

On the recent slump in the Biancocelesti’s fortunes, the hitman added, “When a team doesn’t do so well, everyone must take their share of the responsibility, manager and players, and that holds true for when things are looking up as well.

“It’s tough for me to predict a score for tomorrow’s game,” Signori concluded, “My heart is divided in two, I hope the best team wins, or maybe a draw would be the fairest result.”

Preview : Lazio vs Bologna

Kick-Off: Saturday, February 28, 18:00 CET, Stadio Olimpico, Roma

Lazio’s Fortunes Finally Turning?

The situation in the Lazio camp has calmed a little following the sound 2-0 victory over Lecce. After a disastrous run of results that saw Lazio starved of a win for seven games it finally looks like the Biancocelesti’s fortunes may finally be turning. Despite a decent overall display last Sunday, it cannot be ignored that Lecce hit the woodwork on numerous occasions and this certainly influenced the course of the game.

With the illusive win now under their belts, the Aquilotti have most certainly released some of the pressure that has been building in the past two months. It is now time for Delio Rossi’s men to push on with a run of positive results that would see them occupy a more respectable position in the standings. Given the looming Coppa Italia semi-final with Juventus on Tuesday, the challenge for Delio Rossi will be to focus his men for Bologna and not concede another slip-up.

Given seventh place is just two points adrift of the Biancocelesti’s current tally, the importance of the Bologna clash cannot be underestimated. It could prove to be a tough day at the office however, given reports that the Bologna are set to defend in numbers. Should Lazio manage to overcome Bologna, they will not only improve their current league position, but will also keep the positive momentum that will set them in good stead for the Coppa Italia.

Bologna Banking On Top Gun

Following last Saturday’s defeat at home to Inter, Sinisa Mihajlovic will have felt aggrieved that his Bologna side did not finish with at least a point against his former club. As Bologna make the trip south to Rome, the Serbian tactician will once again face one of his former employers with no fewer than five former Lazio players in his squad. This could prove an advantage for the Rossoblu who ousted Lazio 3-1 in the reverse fixture.

Despite some frailties at the back this season, Bologna hold a massive trump card in Marco Di Vaio currently the league’s leading marksman. With Di Vaio fronting the line, the Rossoblu are a constant threat for the opposition, and they have fared well on the road largely thanks to his generous goal haul. Having risen through the ranks in the Lazio youth system, Di Vaio has many friends and family still living in the capital, and he will be desperate to put in another influential performance in their presence on Saturday.

Since taking over from Daniele Arrigoni, Mihajlovic has done discreetly well at the helm, yet his Bologna side are still perilously close to the drop zone. After amassing a high number of draws, Bologna need to start notching up the victories that would see them close the ground on the breakaway sides above them. A surprise victory at the Olimpico would not only gift Bologna a vital three points, but would also offer some satisfaction to the large contingent of Rossoblu players, who used to ply their trade in the capital.

TEAM NEWS

Lazio

In light of the crunch Coppa Italia semi-final with Juve next week, Delio Rossi may impose some turnover against Bologna given the importance of the clash. Mauro Zarate is certain to start against Bologna, as he is suspended for Tuesday’s encounter. Rozehnal and Radu hold hopes of winning back their starting places in defence.

Probable Starting XI (4-4-2): Muslera, Lichtsteiner, Cribari, Siviglia, Kolarov; Brocchi, Ledesma, Matuzalem, Foggia; Pandev, Zarate

Bologna

Sinisa Mihajlovic has few selection problems ahead of the encounter with his former club. Vangelis Moras is the only player set to miss out because of suspension whilst Gaby Mudingayi, Daniel Osvaldo, and Cristian Zenoni are all one booking short of a ban.

Probable Starting XI (4-5-1): Antonioli; Lanna, Britos, Terzi, Zenoni; Bombardini, Amoroso, Mingazzini, Mudingayi, Valiani; Di Vaio

PLAYERS TO WATCH

Neapolitan native Pasquale Foggia was inspirational in the victory over Lecce last Sunday. After netting the opener, he worked his socks off for the remainder of the game, providing a perfect link between defence and attack. Slowly emerging as a favourite with the Biancocelesti faithful, ‘Il Folletino’ will want to gift the crowd another gutsy performance and underline his importance to the side.

Top marksman Marco Di Vaio is arguably enjoying the best form of his career this season. Currently topping the scorer’s charts with sixteen goals, the former Lazio youth product could prove vital for Bologna's relegation struggle. Di Vaio will be determined as ever to score against his former employers and has vowed not to celebrate if he should do so.

PREDICTION

With one eye on next week’s encounter with Juve, Lazio must be careful not to underestimate Bologna as they did in the reverse tie back in October. Given Bologna are more prolific on the road this season, the Rossoblu should provide a stern test for the Biancocelesti. Given Bologna have not won away to Lazio for eleven years however, I think the Aquilotti will run out winners once more on Saturday.

Interview with Rossi

Mister what you expect from the game tomorrow?
I repeat. We must talk little and do the facts. A game won or lost must not turn away from the conviction of being a good team. He awaited confirmation on the ground, otherwise the good performance of Lecce was on.
Let us dispel the taboo Olympic ..
All Olimpico win would be the result of a good performance. Certainly if I played with arrogance and softness have more difficulty finding space.
Think you have finally found best formation?
I think that the basic skeleton there's always been, then there were some situations that we do not have permission to give continuity to good performance, in addition to the interpreters. The problem is that we have been mixed.
How important is this for Lazio Foggia?
Foggia is a player who was born as something more, in the sense that it has the characteristics to be brilliant and strictly offensive player. In my opinion, however, has the technical, tactical and endurance, such as to give a balance to the team. The problem is that if you must put in the head.
In what sense?

It is assumed that an offensive player has to play near the door. Instead, by playing well, gives opponents a point of reference is only one must return to help the defense, but he must do to create more spaces forward.
About Matuzalem, do you have great room for improvement? According to me, i feel convinced that we have not seen the best Matuzalem as today.
What do you think of Bologna? The Bologna as many other teams, for great characteristic play better away from home. I expect to be playing the game to face, trying to exploit the situations that will be created.
Are you surprises with coach Mihajlovic?
No, I am not surprised. When playing was intelligent, stubborn, as well as having technical skills. Also a character I feel tough. I wonder how can Maradona surprised.
What do you think of the revival of Di Vaio?
Di Vaio know him well. The first year he played he did with me (to Salernitana, ndr), whereas in previous had never played, so I know well: it is devastating in the spaces. The problem is that when you hit certain levels, when you return back to serve time to eat wheat bread.
And 'the decisive moment of the season?
The defining moment will be in Spring, when will those who have worked better or worse. In that moment you decide championships. For this reason I continue to say that the classification must be seen in March.
Two matches in three days. We will turn over?
No, because we think batch by batch. The meetings need to be addressed one at a time. I think that a professional trained to deal with two close matches. Certainly not every Tuesday. At least I think so today.
In Bologna there was the first real fall season ..

More than a drop in yield was half of the total black out. Then we are back in the game, but it was too late.
But how do you now Lazio?

We must improve every day, both as a focus, efficiency and intensity. We must do so in the field working and talking just outside.
Think you have found the right defense?

The problem of defense is not individual but the entire team, except that features something to give always. Regarding men, I think that now this is the quartet that speaks better. But this does not exclude that already tomorrow there may be some changes.
How about Kolarov .. ?
This player who came last year from another type of football, but the technical quality and physical activity. Clearly needs to improve, but by its quality and the age to do so. I grew up and I see so much in my opinion have much room for improvement.

Mihajlovic: "It would be nice to train the Lazio"

The coach of Bologna, Sinisa Mihajlovic, will meet tomorrow for the first time in the Lazio coach, his former football team, here's his sensation: "I'll be back in a city where I was leading, where I won so much but I should have and could win Moreover, given that I played Lazio in a strong, full of samples.'ll be back in Rome, in the town of my wife and my children, but we come back with the Bologna and then I can not take the feelings, because the Bologna has to think only to make three points. Il Corriere dello Sport today is an excess role in biancocelesti role of projects, from the goalies, a role that should be confirmed and Carrizo Muslera.

To defend the number one goal is always Branislav Ivanovic, despite the Chelsea defender is a step from Fiorentina. The alternative is called Edu Dracena, Fenerbahce Brazilian which is spoken in Latium key already in January, leaving alive the runway Miranda. The new name is Bellusci.

In midfield, apart from the many names that are made, the avenues seem to be those that lead to McDonald Marigo, the Parma midfielder Kenyan and Juan Sebastian Veron, who in June could leave Estudiantes to return to Rome.

Forward, it is clear, you need to Lazio this is a bit of weight, able to make the most of the work of various Pandev, Zarate, Rocchi and Foggia. Juventus And Inter To Fight For Lazio's Goran Pandev

The two giants are ready to rumble for Pandev, who could leave his club in the summer if he doesn't get a new deal... Juventus and Inter will be fighting for Lazio's Goran Pandev as well as the Scudetto this season, as the Macedonian international has not signed a new deal at the Olimpico.

Pandev's current contract will expire in June 2010 and he could be free to find himself another club as soon as January. Lazio want him to stay, but the Rome-based club have not moved in to secure the striker's services for the future.

The Bianconcelesti have been distracted by negotiations with Arab club Al-Sadd over the Mauro Zarate deal, and they seem to have neglected Pandev.

Events at Formello have led Sportmediaset.it to believe that both Juventus and Inter will fight their own transfer derby for the prolific striker.

Reports suggest the Italian giants are making enquiries regarding the striker's availability and negotiations could take off in the summer. Aquilotti president Claudio Lotito has always stated his stance over the club's top players, but with no new deal forthcoming, Pandev could be tempted by offers from Juve and Inter.

Champions League football could also be a key factor in the possible move as Lazio are unlikely to qualify for Europe's elite club competition this term.

Candidates to Replace Rossi

Lotito is running out of patience and it could be all change sooner rather than later... Lazio president Claudio Lotito is planning a coaches lottery as more doubts are cast upon Delio Rossi's future at the Olimpico.

Leggo claims the fiery chief has lined up four potential candidates to replace the under fire coach if his marriage with Lazio breaks down. The Biancocelesti have struggled this term, and hopes of European football have suffered as a result.

Lotito does not want to miss out of the financial benefits offered by qualification for Europe and this could lead to Rossi paying the price of failure.

Reports suggest Siena coach Marco Giampaolo, Sampdoria tactician Walter Mazzarri, Cagliari's Massimiliano Allegri and Livorno's Leonardo Acori have all been added to the list.

Although the voices over a probable sacking have grown louder in recent weeks, the Rome-based club are likely to wait and see if the team pushes itself into Europe.

Failure to reach the minimum objective of a UEFA Cup place could have the writing on the wall for Rossi.

Marcos Angeleri Will Play For Lazio Next Season – Igli Tare

The club's sporting director has insisted that Angeleri will be joining the Biancocelesti in the summer of 2009... Lazio are suffering another disappointing season in Serie A, despite a positive start to this campaign. The Rome-based club sit in 11th place in the Serie A standings.

Some pundits believe major changes will take place once the season is over but sporting director Igli Tare has made one thing clear, "The position of Lazio on the [Marcos] Angeleri story is very clear. Next season he will play with Lazio."

The Biancocelesti arrested a run of poor results last weekend, beating Lecce 2-0.

"We are at a key time and the next two matches represent the crossroads of our season,” Tare explained to Sky. “[My] renewal does not depend on our final placement [in the league standings]. There is a willingness to make major purchases."

Regarding Matuzalem, who is at Lazio on loan from Real Zaragoza, Tare said, “I have no doubts [about his ability]. I have always believed in him.”

Estudiantes and Argentine international defender Angeleri has also been linked with moves to Fiorentina and Inter, despite declaring he would like to join Lazio. The Biancocelesti have claimed that a deal is nearly complete.

Goran Pandev for Juventus ?

It comes directly from Turin: Juventus are seriously considering a Goran Pandev as next target market. No negotiation, no official contact, just a thought leadership and technical Bianconeri are thinking. The Macedonian is on the interest of Bayern Monaco and Liverpool but for the first time rumors in the market include an Italian club. La Juve, engaged tonight in the Champions League against Chelsea, would therefore be keen to assess the situation between the Macedonian and Lazio (Lotito has not yet found a formal agreement to renew the contract ) and understand what would be the scope for any negotiation.

Agent: Marcos Angeleri Will Not Join Lazio

Contrary to latest reports, a representative for the Estudiantes defender has revealed his client will not move to the Biancocelesti next summer.

Press reports suggested in recent weeks that Serie A club Lazio were on the verge of wrapping up a deal for Estudiantes right-back Marcos Angeleri.

The player himself had reassured the Laziali supporters that he would land in the Italian capital, but his agent Miguel Pires seems to have now sensationally pulled the plug on the transfer.

“There are no scheduled meetings with Lazio,” Lalaziosiamonoi.it quotes Pires as saying on aperturapincharrata.blogspot.com.

“This is all I can say, in my opinion there will be no deal with Lazio and Angeleri will not play for this club," he affirmed.

The 25-year-old’s contract with the Argentine club will run out next June and he could have joined the Aquile on a free transfer, but Pires also hinted that the door was open to negotiate a new deal with his current club.

According to Lalaziosiamonoi.it, the player’s representatives have blocked the move to push their client towards Inter, who are also said to be interested in his services.

Delio Rossi Wants To Remain As Lazio Coach – President Claudio Lotito

Rossi's contract with Lazio expires this summer but president Lotito insists that his general is likely to remain in charge...
Lazio finally managed to return to winning ways on Sunday, securing a 2-0 win over Lecce. It has been another disappointing campaign for the Roman club, who finished in 12th last season and are currently sitting in bottom half of the Serie A table this term, despite harbouring aspirations of European football.

Some have called for the head of coach Delio Rossi but president Claudio Lotito appears to be satisfied with work of the ex-Atalanta coach, whose contract expires in June.

"We have shown with our actions that we want to continue with him and he has said that he wants to stay,” revealed Lotito to Radio Gol. “Rossi would be violating federal rules by speaking to another club.

"For me he has [always] been the right choice. The [poor] results are due to a number of different factors."

Lazio host Bologna this coming weekend, hopeful of putting together consecutive wins. Meanwhile, Siena boss Marco Giampaolo has been linked with the Biancocelesti hot-seat in the media.

Sound Lazio Send Lecce Into Dropzone

Lazio ran out winners for the first time in seven games after a first half Foggia goal was followed by a belter from Kolarov leaving Lecce in trouble at the bottom.

Lecce 0-2 Lazio

Pre-Match And Team News

Both sides were desperate to record a victory after enduring difficult times in recent weeks. Lecce were looking to edge away from the looming drop zone a mere three points behind. Lazio welcomed the return of Christian Ledesma after he made a lightning recovery from injury.

First Half

Less than a minute after kick off Lecce had already broken through the Lazio backline. Cacia found himself open to shoot within the box, but his powerful effort came clattering off the post. Delio Rossi’s men looked stunned after narrowly escaping from a nightmare start.

On 7 minutes it was Lazio’s turn to hit the woodwork following a wonderful attempt by Zarate. A neat one-two on the edge of the box with Pandev was finished off with a delightful floated shot over an air-bound Benussi. To the disarray of the Argentinian, the ball smashed the crossbar and was subsequently cleared to safety.

Less than three minutes later the away side took the lead with a wonderful volleyed effort from Pasquale Foggia. After moving well down the right, Lichtsteiner had put an inviting ball towards the edge of the box which the Neapolitan winger struck sweetly on the volley. On the way the ball took a huge deflection off Stendardo, leaving Benussi wrong footed on the goal line.

Lazio thought they had doubled their lead on 17 minutes when Pandev rippled the net with a header from close range. After a clever ball over the top was cut back into the box by Brocchi, Pandev was unjustifiably judged to be in an offside position as he headed past Benussi. Lazio were threatening with their slick counter-attacking play and the home side were feeling the pressure.

On 28 minutes Lecce could have levelled the scoring after hitting the woodwork once more. A lost ball inside the Lazio box was picked up by Tiribocchi. The ‘TIR’ spun his marker and produced a powerful drive past Muslera, but once more it was the post that saved Lazio’s blushes and denied the Salentini a great goal.

At half time the home side will have felt aggrieved not to have found the net but Lazio were worth their lead after taking more of the initiative going forward.

Second Half

Just five minutes into the re-start Lazio doubled their lead in spectacular fashion. Aleksander Kolarov flew down the left flank at pace and after cutting in past his marker, the Serb unleashed a bullet into the top right hand corner, leaving Benussi with no chance of making contact. It was a trademark attempt that gifted the Biancocelesti a commanding lead.

Lazio continued to press forward and were a constant threat going forward. Beretta’s men found it increasingly difficult to respond as the midfield trio of Matuzalem, Brocchi and Ledesma continued to boss the middle of the park.

As the game wore on Lecce endeavoured to press forward, but they did so with little conviction, and Muslera was rarely threatened between the sticks.

Delio Rossi’s men were displaying the confidence of a side in control as they passed the ball around from front to back in a bid to maintain possession for sustained periods and ease the pressure on the backline.

Lazio had the chance to make it 3-0 with ten minutes remaining when Foggia was set through into the box by Lichtsteiner. The Neapolitan produced a clever curled attempt towards the far post but Benussi did well to parry the danger and deny Lazio a third.

The home side were reduced to ten men in the final minutes after Cacia was stretched off following a heavy challenge. With no substitutes remaining Lecce had to grit their teeth and see out the game a man down.

As the whistle blew for time, Lazio celebrated their first win in seven league games and a performance that demonstrated far more than in recent weeks. Lecce were thrown into further misery as they moved into the drop zone.

FINALLY..LAZIO WIN...!!!!

FORZA Lazio, Lecce lose. They are two sides of the challenge of the Via del Mare, taboo for giallorossi since September 28, land of conquest for biancoceleste, passing 2-0 thanks to Foggia Kolarov. The team found Delio Rossi with a great performance that victory was missing for six rounds, inspired by the play of Zarate, a little 'too selfish to realize all the great action that creates it. Lecce unlucky (three posts), but unable to do something to understand that the game can not just go inland central defeats in a row so they become three (seven networks in the liabilities), the 306 minutes without scoring '. It also becomes difficult to classify: the third place at 22.
CONFIRMATIONS - The sides are expected. Beretta relies to 4-3-1-2, with Fabiano at the center of defense and Giacomazzi duo behind the attack-Cacia Tiribocchi. Delio Rossi Ledesma that takes its place on the flight director on the bench and sends Rocchi, deploying trident in Foggia, Zarate and Pandev.
WOODS AND GOAL - Experiences at the start-up, after the minute's silence in memory of Candido Cannavò. Begins with Lecce Cacia, which after 23 "hits the post. Then Lazio, 8 ', when Zarate escapes centrally giallorossa defense and limit the right scale that breaks against the crossbar. The prelude to the goal of the guests, the lead two minutes later with Foggia, that the third symbol seasonal network thanks to a deviation which deceives Stendardo Benussi. For Lazio is just the tenth season goals (on 34) in the first half. But there is time for another timber, Lecce hit again from the 29 'through a beautiful shot of Tiribocchi in the heart of biancazzurra.
Tactics - The first Lazio is branded with the speed of the tips and the right end, where raging Lichtsteiner, who stravince the duel with Giuliatto. The guests wait for Lecce, which is central intestardisce inland where it is clear that with the team fielded by the party does not pass. Beretta's team struggled to create the game, mainly because Edinho is a interditore and Caserta is just inspired. Zarate is the weapon in several of Sydney: The Argentine is in the day, and even if it does not mark a constant thorn in the side giallorosso. Lecce in the final seems to find himself, but leaves the whistles of his supporters.
MAGIC LEFT - Masters of the house still proactive in the opening shot, but we think Kolarov to extinguish the dreams of comeback giallorossi: 5 'Serbian escape on the left, does not see anyone in the middle and then download the powerful left-handed towards the door Benussi, who can only collect the ball at the bottom of the bag. The Lecce reacts immediately with a shot to the head at close of Cacia, which gives the optical illusion of the goal, then turns off, asleep high provision of tactical Lazio and the inability to find an alternative way to play for Central. The last leap to 38 ', when Ariatti located on the third day of wood by sending a large distance to the left of the print on the upright. Then Cacia is wrong to leave her in the last ten minutes. Nothing changes, and the Via del Mare raining a barrage of whistles. Read More..

Lazio close to signing Angeleri

According to reports, Lazio have nearly completed the signing of Estudiantes defender Marcos Angeleri...

Lazio look like they have closed the deal for Argentine defender Marcos Angeleri, according to reports circulating in Italy.

TuttoMercatoWeb says that there should be a meeting at some point this weekend between representatives of the Biancocelesti and the player’s agent.

It is hoped that during these meetings, an agreement will be reached to bring the 25-year-old to the Italian capital.

Other reports have shown that the man himself has expressed his desire to play for Lazio, so all things considered, the deal should be relatively simple to close up, and we could be watching the Estudiantes man at the Olimpico next season. Read More..

Enough Talk, I Want To See Some Results - Delio Rossi

Lazio boss Delio Rossi has come down hard on his men, ahead of their Serie A game against Lecce on Sunday...

The fact that Lazio are in a bit of a rut is no secret, their troubles have been well documented, with some calling for the manager’s head

He himself has spoken to journalists ahead of his side’s trip to Lecce tomorrow, and Datasport reports, that he did not mince his words.

“It is a delicate game,” the determined tactician began, “But now it is time to get results, I am also looking for a certain type of behaviour on the pitch from my players.

“To win this game we will need to be focused and play with all the technical skill we possess.”

On the crisis in general, the Biancocelesti’s coach said, “We have a great side that has only been able to play like one intermittently, and I am not sure why. If I knew, I would fix it.

“We are not an overrated side," he insisted, "It is just that often we created a lot of chances without scoring, and then when we did score, we were already behind.”

Tommaso Rocchi could be back for this game, and that would allow Rossi to return to a front three. The 48-year-old said that to go back to Lecce, where he was once manager, will be special for him.“I have tried to engage with people wherever I have gone, and in Lecce I have some great friends, and so it is a pleasure to return.
